STORMWATER

GATES FOR DETENTION BASINS

Designed to prevent excessive runoff, detention basins store stormwater and gradually release it using fixed outlet structures like pipes, weirs, or concrete boxes to maintain historic flow rates. By allowing peak outflow to be discharged earlier and smoothing the hydrograph, the SteadyFlow Gate optimizes basin performance. The result? More effective stormwater management with reduced flood risk, without the need for electricity, ensuring reliability even during major storms.

Increasing Developable Area

By pairing a SteadyFlow Gate with a detention basin’s traditional outlet structure, detention basins are able to reduce stormwater runoff to historic rates while using as little as 50% of the footprint area that traditional detention basins use. This provides additional room for development and can contribute towards development density goals set by some jurisdictions.

Increasing Effectiveness of Existing Detention Basins

Many old detention basins have been proven to be less effective than their original intent due to more recent rainfall data and other factors. In lieu of expanding existing detention basins, SteadyFlow Gates can be installed for a fraction of the cost to increase the effectiveness and decrease the outflow rate from detention basins.
